- 2023-10-27 [[]] This is Colin Maxwell calling in for the week ending Friday, October the 27th. There were, there are a couple, there was a minor quality issue that I encountered this week during my, during my trip into New England at Clausen's in Vermont. There were some damaged 804s. It looked as though they'd been punctured probably by a, actually by a forklift when they were in the, being loaded. My trip at Pleasant View actually went, both locations went very well. They are very interested in the 4 12, provided that it ends up being part of Proven Winners. I think they are prepared actually to go and move their 4 12 inch pots over to the low profile tray system. Some code activity this week, mainly add-ons. Other than that, nothing else to report. Thank you.
- 2023-10-27 [[]] Robert Nelson, Territory Update. Hello to everyone on the call today. This week, spent most of the week up here in Oklahoma. We had the Oklahoma Nursery Association trade show. It's a much smaller trade show. However, I think it was good to go. Got to spend some good quality time with my main Griffin rep. We spent some time with the TLC ownership team. Got some commitment to them actually giving us a date to come in and do the low-profile trade trial. So overall it was a good show. But the highlight of the week was the meeting that I had this afternoon with Guthrie Greenhouse. Was able to formulate a strategy and plan with Bryce because Guthrie works with the company Farm and Ranch Retail that was purchased by a much larger company up in Iowa that we also work with on the retail side called Bum Guards. So it went really well. Was able to give them some advice on a new program that they're securing and worked with Bryce on that. Because it's one of his customers. So love it when we come up with a plan and a strategy and it works. Love to see that. So good job and thank you. We also didn't actually do the trial of the low-profile trade. But we did get out there and worked with them on their shipping racks. We had some of their other items and sizes and trades out there and kind of mix matching and see what works and what doesn't works and things like that. And got some real commitment to them actually committing to doing the trial and giving us a date. So it was a great meeting. Good week. No problems to report at this time and no quality issues. Didn't even see a single competitor at the show by the way. Really didn't hear much from from anybody this week. Other than that, that's it. Robert, thank you.
- 2023-10-28 [[]] Hello, this is Rodney calling out of California. I'm busy or weak on the quoting front that landing a few new eight-pallet drops to Growers Depot, Twin Oak Growers, and Foothill Tropicals. Also had a truckload of pull-forward nursery items through Pacific Nursery Pots. As for the competition, I received a call from Gene Rochelle stating he has taken on a role of Director of Sales for Growers Depot, China supplier. Gene also mentioned XY Inc. continues to be the lowest cost China supplier and has been tasked with meeting and beating their price points. I'm sure there'll be more to come. Thank you. Make a great week.
- 2023-10-28 [[]] Hello it's Tom Morris from Alberta and BC for call number 33. Results this week got the greenery order for $110,000 although interesting to note they were complaining that they were getting 4,000 capped dishes instead of 3,500 that they needed to match their baskets so the extra 20 odd bucks on a $110,000 order was enough of an issue for them to bring it up to CY and for us to adjust it to 2,000 and to 800 spaces to make 3,600. Pipeline opportunities should find out EDL next week be going to BC and meet with them along with CY and Little Mountain Greenhouses from Wednesday to Friday should also find out Flowerland next week.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Hey, good morning. Rich here with this week's update. Last week I was able to get up to Canada. Darren and I visited with a distributor to one of their accounts for a potential opportunity for custom protective packaging for their computer components. So Darren and I was able to get samples of the items they need packaged along with the boxes they'd be shipping in. So hopefully we can look at some in-house options to see how we can support this very nice opportunity for new business. On the greenhouse side, I have about six requests from Green Island to do low-profile trade trials. I'm going to try to be present at as many as possible as I can. Most likely sometime like right after the holidays would be best. However, Tim Foster and I from Maple Street Advisors are going to be scheduled sometime at the last week of November, and we discussed the opportunity of maybe getting down to Long Island to visit two Green Island key accounts and doing the low-profile trade trials at those two accounts. So Tim Foster thought that would be a great idea. And that's it for this week. Thank you.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Good morning this is Tony Landino with the weekly sales call. I did receive a note late on Friday that the Home Depot IPR analyst has cut the additional host orders for the additional 40 stores for the new assortment. I expect to receive that shortly as it makes its way through the approval process. From a new assortment perspective it is performing very well from a POS perspective in the fall refresh stores. Strong double-digit comps and strong double-digit increase over the average unit sales per week for the forecast. Looking at the Home Depot 2025 PLR submission again a note late on Friday what appears to be a another different process this year from a format perspective and template perspective but nevertheless all submissions are due in two weeks. Everything is due November 12th. From a comp perspective this week so far through through Saturday looking at Home Depot strong double digits overall positive for the week. All six major regions were positive in units and the Midwest was the best performer. Pacific region and California specifically both significantly large influencers on the comps were again positive for the ninth week in a row. Menards comps were also double-digit positive for the week. Thanks everyone have a great week.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] This is Jim with his weekly update. Highlights this week, Brockville Farms placed their remainder of their spring order. Cassaverde growers were continuing to work together on their artwork design for a new printed program featuring the Petites Garden Center logos. Also spent quite a bit of time on territory review, pipeline, and account status updates. Upcoming this week, Metrolina is still in the process of reviewing all their spring orders, which are in-house and addressing any additional needs they might come across. And they're also reviewing their tray inventory for the coming season.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Hi, this is Anne-Marie with your weekly update. This week we received POs from Amazon for $45,000 and also POs from VMI for $16,000, which is more than I expected. We also got a bulk buy request from Amazon for both December and January. That's for $74,000, and we'll see those POs on Tuesday, October 31st. Please note, based on past experience, we will not be receiving a bulk buy in November. There are some items that Amazon is running out of or has run out of that they're not reordering. I'm assuming it's because of space. We've tried to do born-to-run orders, but they're not accepting born-to-run on items that are older than three months, so we're looking at trying to put the appropriate items into the Direct Fulfillment Program or possibly send them to Seller Central until Amazon is back in stock. And that's it for this week. Have a good week.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] This is Steve Rustenberg leaving my 30-second call weekending 10-28-2023. Sitting on about 117,000 pounds, almost 118,000 pounds. Roughly about 395,000 bucks. Got several irons in the fire. I took a couple days off early this week on Monday and Tuesday, probably the wrong week to do it because it became a very, very busy week from Wednesday on. Got Faribault in process. I believe we'll get that order this week. I talked to Lance several times this week about that order, and it sounds like it's going to go down just to technicality on a quote number that Lance gave the customer. So once that's revised, it'll be all fine. Not on our end on his. But Park County Produce expects to hear from John Fisher this week. Some new business coming in we haven't had in a couple years. Expect to hear from him as well as several other irons in the fire. It's a good thing to note that K&W Greenery went through BFG for the first time in many years. That was actually a Carlin customer. I did need some help on that and did request some help on that from BFG. I have a rep over there, Trephina, who was not answering calls for the customer. The customer was getting upset, and I wasn't going to lose the order over that. So I've got Jason Jacobs involved, and Jason Jacobs, say that 10 times twice, got over there and handled the quoting of the customer and secured the order for us. So just a side note, good news. I mean, got to handle what you got to handle, and you got to make sure you get the order. That's the bottom line. So that is the end of my 30-second call. Week ending 10-28-2023. Everybody make it a great week. Happy Halloween if you're celebrating it this weekend. Thank you.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Hi, everybody. It's Jamie. I hope you all had a great week. We were out at A's last week. I probably mentioned to a handful of you all, as I've heard about it, but it was a good review of the assortment. It seems like we're certainly going to be considered as long as we can get some of the financials and stuff right for them. So that's a nice thing going forward, maybe for 25. If anybody has any questions, let me know. Let Mark know. But that went well. Aside from that, watching orders come in, none of the big show orders coming in quite yet. It's probably mostly November to December type timeframe. If anybody has any distribution questions, let me know. Aside from that, I'm looking forward to the meetings coming up in November. If anybody needs anything else, I'll be around better part of the week. I'll see you all then. Have a great weekend. Thanks.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Hey everybody, it's Michael. So, pretty busy week and a relatively good week as far as orders coming in. There were a few key drop ships that had quotes hanging out there for months that have finally been submitted and entered. One, for example, was Pineview Farm in Kentucky. That quote was first done in June, so that's just a pretty extreme example, nonetheless, of kind of what I've been seeing, which supports the general feeling that customers are dragging their feet this year, kind of like pulling teeth on some of these. And a couple of those were based off of the previous guidance, because it was done so long ago. So, pricing and margin are pretty solid with a few of those coming in. A couple positive notes to add. We had a good win at Hanes in the Toledo area. Spelled like Homes, but pronounced Hanes. They were previously buying from Poppelman. It's just nine pallets of four-and-a-half-inch printed pots and trays, but a good incremental win, nonetheless. Also, quoting new business as well for Smith Gardens in the Delaware-Ohio area. It's a dropship we haven't had in a couple years. It's 24 pallets, so pretty good numbers there. I plan on visiting with them this week to see what I can do to win that one and see what I can do to get them over to H.C. So, just another good pipeline win. Just keep pushing. These orders and quotes are still out there, and finding every little opportunity or large opportunity that we can. Any questions, let me know. Have a great week, and talk to you all soon. Bye-bye.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Everyone's short $161,000 at Martin's Produce, which was a kind of unexpected order, so a good win for us. Pretty much just really busy with all the projects we're working on from the account status file, the pipeline tracker, and the account plan review. Had a good interview with the consultants this week. Felt like a good conversation back and forth, but yeah, just busy with all the projects going on. Hope you guys have a great weekend, and we'll talk next week. Bye.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Good afternoon, Bryce. It was a good week for orders should be getting some more BWI stuff wrapped up, just kind of slowly trickling in as corporate, I guess, is buried working to get even just the drop ships put in. Bacchus nursery has finalized their greenhouse production. They're doing some inventory checks, but I'll be working on getting that their greenhouse needs order booked up this week ahead. It's usually pretty competitive with East Jordan, but they're usually pretty cooperative and working with us. They prefer to give some of the business to us and to get a lot from East Jordan for their contract growing stuff going to be making a trip down to Miami this week to do kind of a handoff and introductions at Costa United and some of the other key growers in the homestead area with Dustin and Brian. So, looking, looking forward to getting immersed in that market as well as getting down into Texas and and the South and into California with Rodney going to be working on kicking over a bunch of stuff to ship to load planning too. So they can keep loading up. It was good to hear from them this week that they were planned out through the end of next through the end of this coming week when I talked to him last week. So hopefully we can continue that and appreciate everybody's support. Have a good week.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Hi, it's Tina calling in. This week we had a booth at the GCGC show which is a buying group for growers across Canada. We normally don't exhibit but this year we decided to do so just to help promote the low-profile trade. We are happy that we did so because we had a very busy booth and we set up a dozen trials for the various sizes. Thanks and have a good day.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Hey, everyone, this is Alicia Lovell from West Coast. Not a ton to report in my visits with LA accounts this week. We pretty much only saw XY products on the ground for nursery just because of the low price points. They really are dominating the market, especially in that area. Several growers that I spoke with said they're being impacted by the slow succulent sales and also by the writer's strike with people out of work and neighboring businesses being affected. So I thought that was interesting. On the hydroponic front, we continue to see a shift in from outdoor growing to indoor growing in urban areas with smaller container sizes and using multiple turns, somewhat of a modest uptick that we're hearing in that market. But some of that is being mitigated by grow back screening, gaining traction in that market. So I'm keeping an eye on a side note, keeping an eye on the TFR-002 as the mold is going out for repair next month, and it will impact Altman's SmartPlanet orders, confirming the blanks that we have in Middlefield on the ground to see what we can get Altman started for their November planting because we are going to impact our planting dates. And then finally, I did hear that Gene Rochelle is going to be working with Growers Direct. He was formerly with TNR. So just showing how imports are really starting to impact the West Coast market in a big way. So anyways, that's it. Thanks, guys.
- 2023-10-29 [[]] Hi, this is Jacob. This week, I took a trip up to Idaho to visit Moss Greenhouses, Ward's Greenhouse, and Edwards Greenhouse. So at Moss, we were going over an opportunity through their new MUM program, and we're going over quotes with them right now. And also, you know, they were very excited about the low-profile trend, wanted to trial as soon as a three-and-a-half-inch square comes out, because that's primarily the size that they're using for that. Edwards and Edwards are both going to trial the low-profile tray at a four-and-a-quarter-inch, and they seemed very excited about that. I'm also finalizing numbers for Edwards' quote for the 2024 season. Towards the end of the week, I made a trip down south towards Olsen's Garden Shop and Wynn Gardens. Both will have an order coming in soon for their season, for this season, and also both will be trialing our four- or low-profile tray for our four-inch. Our feedback on the low-profile tray has been super positive so far. Most wanted to do a trial, mostly for the garden center side of it to see how customers interact with it. But we have gone over samples and shown, you know, how easy it is to push the button, but that seems kind of like the most hang-up of why they want to try it out first. But yeah, it's been a good week. Thanks. Bye.
- 2023-10-30 [[]] Yes, hello. This is Matt Stahl in Michigan. I think I mentioned it last call, but I did get the order in for D&B. It was much larger than even I was told, so good news on that one. No quality issues to speak of this past week. Everybody's been really happy with the quality of delivery so far, so no issues on that front as well. Going forward this week, we'll be working, hopefully, been trying to get some numbers out of Toys, but they so far have not responded very well, so I'm hoping to get some answers out of them this coming week. Also be looking at other opportunities. There's some Lertzma additions maybe coming, and a few others as well. For now, that's it. Thanks so much. Bye-bye.
- 2023-10-30 [[]] Hi, this is Brianne calling. Leanne, Tina, and I attended the Garden Centre Co-op Group Trade Show in Toronto this past week. This was the first time they had the show since 2019 before the pandemic, so it was really good to see everyone again. But we had a really good show, great foot traffic at the booth, and we were able to present the low-profile tray to a lot of customers, and it was very well-received overall. We managed to get a number of growers signed up to do trials. Most are wanting to trial the 4-inch, but a few are interested in the 4.25", so I'll be getting that information submitted this week. While we were there, I also did a quote for four pallets of the low-profile tray for Port Carling Garden Centre. They were so interested after they saw the LPT, they wanted a price as soon as possible.
